Leaving KL and going to Melaka
21.02.2023
Doug made a delicious breakfast of avocado toast and papaya. I packed up and then Doug, Mei and I went for a walk to the twin towers. There is pretty park with a great view. I took some pictures and we walked back to the apartment. I called for a grab, we got my suitcase and backpack and said our goodbyes as I left for the bus station. I got the 12:00 pm bus to Melaka. It was a comfortable ride and took about two hours.
Doug and Mei were such nice people and went out of their way to give me a great experience in KL. I am so lucky that I had that experience.
Doug had told me about Melaka. It’s a World Heritage City having been occupied first by the Portuguese, then the Dutch and finally the British. A lot of the buildings reflect those influences. My hotel room is very small but clean and comfortable. The location is perfect! I can walk to everything. I was able to check in early so I could drop my luggage in the room and go explore.
The streets are really narrow but they are charming. The Melaka River runs through the old town and is lovely. They’re are boat rides on the river. I may do that tomorrow. One of the funniest things is the bicycle carts that take people around to the sights. They are all decorated with bright lights and various cartoon characters.
I had to try it! I went to one of the museums and an old church.
I picked out a place for dinner and ate early since I didn’t get lunch. I had a Laksa noodle soup which was their signature dish. It was definitely different but good.
I went out again in the evening to see what it looked like. It’s very colorful and busy. The bicycle carts are all lit up and have music playing.
